NAYA Restaurant Ayutthaya

Following the successful transformation of a family-owned inherited site into a destination that has generated positive impact within the local community and established a thriving family business through distinctive architecture, NAYA Café Ayutthaya entered its next phase of development. The expansion sought to accommodate a wider range of visitor experiences and programmatic needs, leading to the creation of NAYA Café & Restaurant Ayutthaya.

The architectural design builds upon the strong conceptual foundation established by the original café while introducing a new spatial dimension to the site. At its core, the project continues to explore the relationship between people and the agricultural landscape that surrounds them, preserving the café’s role as a mediator between everyday life and the culture of rice farming that defines the region.

The form of the new restaurant originates from the same rice grain geometry that informed the design of the original café. Rather than creating a contrasting architectural language, the design extends and reinterprets the existing concept. A second rice-grain volume was carefully positioned to complement the café without obstructing its visual presence, allowing both buildings to engage in a mutually supportive relationship across the landscape.

Once the appropriate location was identified, the design focused on establishing a new architectural perspective that would frame views toward both the original café and the surrounding rice fields. To achieve this, the elliptical volume was strategically sliced at an angle of approximately fifteen degrees. This gesture opens the building toward the landscape while maintaining efficient internal spatial organization and a balanced proportion of usable floor area.

The resulting curved geometry generates a sense of enclosure while simultaneously creating a continuous spatial flow throughout the building. These curves connect the project's three primary components: the outdoor dining terrace, the indoor dining hall, and the kitchen area. The curved walls also perform an important functional role, providing a clear yet subtle transition between public dining spaces and the operational areas of the restaurant.

Designing a new building within a site already defined by a strong architectural concept presented both a challenge and an opportunity. Rather than introducing an entirely new narrative, the architects chose to expand the potential of the existing idea. The project enriches the spatial experience while maintaining a coherent relationship with its context, creating new perspectives, new patterns of use, and a deeper dialogue between architecture, landscape, and everyday life.

NAYA Café & Restaurant Ayutthaya demonstrates how a well-established architectural concept can evolve over time. By extending the original design language rather than replacing it, the project creates a layered experience that strengthens the identity of the site while allowing it to continue growing alongside its community.
